Webupdater garmin for vista

However, when I compared with my buddy's Legend HCx 2. Accuracy range throughout the trek was from 3 to 10m. Also noticed, at times the map redraw was noticeably slower by secs as compared to before upgrade. Left my unit at my window untouched for 2 hours today. Trip Odometer showed 59m with a moving time of 1min 19 secs.

Edit - Just checked the unit again. Total time 2 hrs 30 mins. Trip Odo m Moving Time 6mins 45 secs! I don't know what to make of all these yet but the overall experience with the upgraded Vista HCx still feels very good. I haven't had a chance to put my Vista HCx with 2. But, my initial impressions have been favorable.

As we compare our results, I also think it's important to keep our expectations realistic. It would be nice if we could get survey-grade performance from a consumer grade gps, but I don't think we have a legitimate beef if the Vista HCx only gives us consumer grade performance. I upgraded to 2. Contacted Garmin and they recommended a reset and reinstall. Tried that and now the Turn Warning early only beeps occasionally when it should. With only the Turn Warning final beep, sometimes it doesn't give you enough time to react to the turn.

What i mean - you walk into the town and have a signal of 10m and then you enter a building and you go into the elevator. The unit doesn't loose the signal as it should but for minutes it keeps reading a signal of m and it keeps recording data of moving time - speed - and odometer. As long as this is not recorded on the tracklock wasn't with older firmware at least, don't know about 2.

I have been using 2. Here are the instructions to do so:. Please select your setup language and click Next the following instructions are based on the English selection. After the installation, please ensure that there is a checkmark next to Yes, I want to launch WebUpdater now and then click Finish.

The WebUpdater program will launch - again, please ensure that your unit is connected to the computer and turned on. Once the download is complete, please click Finish. The unit is now updated and ready to use. It actually keeps on logging into the tracklog even if signal is lost keeping the vector you've been going before for well some time.

This is definitely a bug. The tracklog continues with this speed for about furhter m. This is definitely a bug and not a feature. Once you get to the download page for Unit SW 2. Correct, but with one important caveat. When you run WebUpdater - for either the unit software or for the chipset software - the file downloads to the temporary internet folder. You can save it from that file.

Then, if you want to backdate from a future update, you already have it. I haven't yet upgraded to 2. I am sorry to report that the drift problem has NOT been solved with 2. During today's walk around the same Burke Lake mentioned in the initial post, the track began to drift from its true position after the Vista HXc had been powered on for about an hour.

By the time the walk was complete, the average track shift error ran from about feet to almost feet. I have no idea what's causing the problem, but I'm past the point of caring. I've already spent too much time on a device that doesn't work right, so it's back to Amazon in the morning.

Time to take another look at DeLorme I bought a Vista HCx with the express purpose of taking it on my honeymoon to track EVERY inch of our cruise, excursions, and to start caching once we got back home.

It was purchased from NewEgg in August of this year, and I had 2. I've not personally had any major issues with this unit, except while we were in Manhattan, and it looked like I was on tweak running up and down, back and forth among all of the skyscrapers.

I know that blocks of tall buildings don't do these units any favors, so it's not something I'll blame on Garmin. Lauderdale to Long Beach from the window seat, it gave great, accurate positioning, without any drift that I could find. The only minor issue is that I found when running 2.

I only really recall this happening with the GPS on the balcony of our stateroom, and since it was only getting half of the sky in its view, I don't suppose I can blame this on Garmin, either. At least not with the experience I've been having.

I'll keep an eye on 2. After reading all of the drama with the eTrex series, I've seriously considered selling it and getting a 60CSx, which is the apparent gold standard among the Garmin lovers around here. The geocache on the trail was consistently right on. Loaded 2. Went on the hike twice this weekend. On Saturday, I couldn't get a fix after 10 minutes, so I power cycled the unit. Finally got a fix - but achieved no better than ' accuracy. So I did another hard reset while on the hike.

Accuracy was ok, but not great. The cache was 15 feet off really bad compared to 2. I couldn't test the cache on Saturday as the hard reset wiped it out of the unit. I'm back to 2. Garmin may have different iterations of the chipset out in the Vista HCx and if that's the case, it may help to explain why no one combo seems to be working for everyone.

Original version was 2. Been tracked about 20 miles on foot in the city since 2. I am on the first floor of the two stories industrial building, closest window is about feet away. The unit is laying flat on the desk. And the whole morning the track variation is about feet also. But the DeLorme BT is having a hard time. BT is using the ST chip, which suppose is a hi-sens chip also.

It took the BT about an hour to get a 3D fix. Upgraded to 2. Sunday will test how it behaves in wild Julian Alps. When we speek about accuracy we look at the tracklogs. The Accuracy shown on the satellite page can be utter nonsense. Especially if the view is shiedeld of to one side only, or in a canyon where many reflected signals will be received. Generally if it shows Accuracy below m than the position is allways really in that range.

Though with 2. Did you use the Webupdater software? Garmin doesn't seem to always have all the downloads listed for a particular unit, but Webupdater should pick it up, or tell you that you're up to date. Failing that, let us know what Garmin says. I have some GPS's at work that show the wrong dates.

Yes, I tried using Web Updater twice in a row, and I also tried the manual download-and-install method twice in a row. Same result - no change - my eTrex Vista still seems to think it is October or If you have to perform a full reset using one of the sequences shown above you will need to allow the unit to collect a full almanac before normal can be resumed.

First a fix will need to be obtained which can take from 5 to 10 minutes of leaving your unit outdoors, stationary, with a good sky view.

After the first lock you will need another Check the date to insure that the information was reloaded properly. Time will be shown as UTC time since your local time offset was lost in the reset. Re-establish all of your preferences such as time zone, daylight savings flag, etc.

Reload all your waypoints and saved routes from your backup. I do hope you have a backup. See link. Good luck. I too noticed that my Etrex Vista has the wrong date and time. I only noticed because I forgot my watch so wanted to look at the gps for the time. I have mine in the car, and I will check it out shortly Specifically, a normal "master rest" on the eTrex Vista is accomplished by holding down the "Page" button and "Enter" i.

You are prompted that a full reset will occur, and after confirming, the machine is reset. However, in my case, this achieved a full reset, but did not fix the date problem. However, the undocumented "super master reset" on the eTrex Vista is achieved by simultaneously holding down the "Page, "Enter" and "Find" buttons while powering up.

You have to hold all buttons in for about 5 to 7 seconds, and you DON'T get the warning message, but when the machine finally restarts, it is fully reset.

After acquiring a satellite fix took several minutes - lo and behold - my time AND date both seem to be correct! Oddly, neither Garmin tech support nor the local reseller seemed to know about this method of REALLY resetting the machine - I will pass on the information to them, for future reference. If the date goes out of whack again, I will try the super-master reset again, and hope for the best.

On the downside, I e-mailed Garmin tech support and the local reseller to let them know of the fix - but neither has seen fit to even reply! Are any other eTrex Vista users experiencing this problem? I am still not getting any sort of response whatsoever from Garmin or their local resellers about a permanent fix for this recurring problem. Maybe they had a bad batch, it happens. Check what version unit software that is in the GPSr and use the webupdater to upgrade it if you have an older version than eTrex Vista Ver.

If that fails I would check with the local reseller about exchanging it for maybe a newer version such as a Vista HCx. Yes, I am definitely running ver 3. Yes, I have contacted the local reseller - they are being good enough about the whole thing, but so far, neither they nor Garmin have offered me a permanent fix.

Well, I am having the same problem with my Vista. Not sure if that is or , and the time was wrong too. Yet, otherwise the unit works fine. I have been using the latest software ver 3. I did the master reset, and like you, if fixed nothing. Then I did the "super master reset" and now my date and time are fine!

Should be interesting WebUpdater's simple interface makes it easy to upgrade your operating software. After confirming that you want to perform an update, WebUpdater will download that update for you and install it on your GPS. WebUpdater always checks for its own update first before performing a unit update. Unlike previous versions, you no longer need to download Web Updater everytime you upgrade your unit software.

Once installed, simply run it from your computer - no need to download anything else yourself. Full Specifications. What's new in version 2. Release July 22, Date Added July 22, Version 2.
