During Orientation and the first several weeks of the semester, you can choose from academic, social, recreational and informational events. You will meet other students, faculty, staff, administrators and your faculty adviser. To help you become a respectful and responsible member of the college, Orientation also includes discussions about living in a diverse community.

All new students are asked to participate in Smith Reads. During Orientation, you will join in discussion groups with your new peers.

If you had to create a synonym for the word Smithie, what would it be? It would be sophisticated because Smithies carry a lot of knowledge and they use it to help guide others who come after them. Orientation Schedule See the full schedule below. Orientation Schedule. Welcome to Smith! Spring Orientation Schedule. EST, through Wednesday, you will meet with your Faculty Adviser for one-half hour to discuss your academic plans and goals for the spring semester.

In coordination with your adviser, the two of you will determine how you will connect—via Zoom, phone or some other means. Note: Your faculty adviser will contact you via your Smith email at some point in the week prior Jan 9th - 14th to arrange for the half hour appointment on either the 18th or 19th. Campus Center On your arrival day you will check in at the Campus Center. From there you will move into your new room. We are so excited to have you on campus! Your two vaccinated guests are allowed to help you move in until 5 p.

Dinner with Your Orientation Leaders —7 p. Pick up your food from an open dining hall and head to your room to join your orientation leaders online for a little fun. Each day of the three-day program includes two components: asynchronous and synchronous. Asynchronous : Mandatory assignments you complete on your own time in Canvas. Synchronous : Daily live Zoom meetings facilitated by your OL.

Connect with new and current students in these Zoom meetings. Audio and video participation is strongly encouraged during these live Zoom meetings. If you are a new incoming International Student, some additional programs may be required.

We understand that many students who attended orientation previously may feel unprepared for returning to campus in the Fall.
