Do you install doors before flooring

It was several years ago when oak was more popular. We used hollow core for the closets, but changed to oak. The doors and trim in my home resemble the first picture. Since darker woods are what you have, but it sounds like you want a more mid tone floor, consider painting the trim white. If it becomes possible with you budget, replace your doors down the road with paneled, either white or dark.

The white is less expensive, but the wood is really attractive. We did a few doors at a time as we could afford them. I saw several parade homes recently with white trim and dark wood paneled doors like the second picture. Beware of wood overload where it looks like a lumber truck capsized coming down the mountain. When using wood together, the key to making it work is varying the tone and grain.

So personally, I would go lighter and with more grain for the floors to hide the wear and tear. That would be a natural oak. For trim, either go painted, or match the floor.

Stained trim is a significant uncharged over painted. If you are on a budget, stick with painted. Install hardwood. Install doors and trim.
